Research
The universal goal for the international HD movement is to find therapies that slow or prevent the progression of HD. The Huntington Society of Canada and Canadian researchers are a key part of this effort.
The international campaign for HD research is reaching a stage in its evolution, which calls for a focused approach to funding research. Along with the international campaign, the Huntington Society of Canada directs its dollars to the most promising, high priority areas in basic and clinical research on early targets and complementary lines of attack. To simplify this, the HSC is the one who gets the most bang for our buck; they choose where to invest our energy.
Research is not only about scientists. Individuals living with HD and their families are helping out as well. As of right now Canada contributes more families to research studies than any other country, but there is room for so many more. There are 6 locations in Canada participating in Huntington Study Group clinical trials, but the international campaign needs more sites and more families and the Huntington Society of Canada is encouraging more Canadians to participate.
Check out clinicaltrials.gov. By searching the keywords "Huntington's Disease" in the search engine, you will be provided with a list of all HD related clinical trials that are currently underway. This is a great way to stay up-to-date and informed about the research currently going on in the HD community.
Earlier this month Dr. Ed Wild and Dr. Jeff Carroll launched their new site HDBuzz. Your source for Huntington's disease research news, in plain language, written by scientists, for the global HD community. Reliable, impartial and free to share, HDBuzz will bring you solid reasons to have hope, by explaining latest news from the worldwide effort to find effective treatments for HD.
