What is YPAHD?
YPAHD stands for Young People Affected by Huntington's Disease (HD). For some time now we (youth affected by HD) have noticed that there is a considerable gap within the HD community. Youth feel sometimes disconnected from all the initiatives taking place all over the world. As a result, a youth initiative was born at the 2008 National HD Conference: YPAHD. The executive is composed of youth ranging from 16 to mid-30s with a mission of providing a community and support network for youth (of any age) affected by HD. We will try and help you as you begin your "journey" with HD. Know that many of us have already been where you are today, and so we understand what you are going through, and more importantly, what you are feeling. Check out our profile page to see our journeys.
As a chapter of the Huntington Society of Canada, we will also listen to and advocate for the needs and goals of young people affected by HD. We will be working as a team (that includes you) to increase public awareness and enable others to understand the disease. All of these things will make it easier for you to reach out in your community. When you need support, it will be there.
Remember, please take advantage of the site. Stay informed about HD and get connected with HD youth.
